The Hellhounds are a race of canine creatures which, while small, are extraordinarily powerful. Most Hellhounds are said to be imbued with the very essence of Satan himself, and have numerous fiery abilities.
Hellhounds actually have three attacks:
- Missile. No different from any other Missile, but ridiculously potent, and will do noticeable damage even with thousands of points in Vitality.
- Spiral. A normal Spiral, but with much more damage.
- Yellow Beam. Whenever a Hellhound receives damage, it will fire out a horizontal beam across the screen scaling with the area of the player's sword (beamWidth = 50 + widthLv*heightLv). When it activates, a yellow circle will appear above and below the Hellhound, and retract until it reaches the Hellhound. At this point, the Beam itself will launch. Both the charging circle and the beam will deal damage should the player come into contact with them.
The Hellhound stage, "a watchdog", adds +1000 armor-piercing damage per hit against the player.
Unlocking the Hellhound stage will also unlock the Kennel, in Area 1, where you can hire a Hellhound helper named Wan Wan.
Strategy[]
When fighting a Hellhound, make sure that you are never in line with it at any of the cardinal directions (above, below, left or right). This means sacrificing your sword, as you will want it to be at minimum length and width to avoid the Yellow Beam. Chaser is absolutely essential, because you will also need to dodge the numerous Missiles and Spirals it will send your way - at this stage, 100,000,000 Gold can be obtained pretty quickly, should you not already have it. For a faster fight, remove the Gauntlet, which will double the amount of Magic you can send out.

Trivia[]
- While Hellhounds are technically considered bosses by the game, they are completely optional and can be ignored for all other intents and purposes. Having said this, they are not that tough to defeat when fought correctly, so whether or not it is worth the trouble will be dependent on how much Wan Wan affects the player's strategy.
- The Hellhound family is the only one in the game which does not reward a large amount of health to a higher-leveled enemy. All told, an Anubis has roughly twice the amount of health as a regular Hellhound, though this varies randomly.
